Karachi’s notorious gangster Ghaffar Zikri killed in Lyari shootout

Karachi: Police on Thursday claimed to have killed Ghaffar Zikri, the leader of one of the several gangs in Lyari, in an encounter that officials said could pave the way for further improvement in security situation in the area. 

According to DIG South Javed Alam Odho, Arshad Pappu’s close aide  Ghaffar Zikri  along with his  accomplice was gunned down in Lyari’s Ali Muhammad  area, adding that  two cops were also injured during the exchange of fire.

The official added that Ghaffar Zikri was the most wanted and ruthless terrorist of Lyari who had established torture cells to spread fear among the people. Police said he had been booked in several cases of heinous crime, while there were more than a dozen cases against his accomplice.

Talking to media DIG South  said that  police conducted a targeted action while acting on credible information , received from an intelligence agency, about the presence of Ghaffar Zikri in Lyari’s Ali Muhammad area.

Seeing the law enforcers, the gangsters used automatic weapons and lobbed hand grenades at them, the DIG said,  the ensuing exchange of gunfire continued for 90 minutes. During the exchange of fire, the most-wanted suspect of Lyari gang war and notorious terrorist commander, Ghaffar Zikri was killed along with his son and  a accomplice, namely Chota Zahid.

The official said that Zikri used his 3-year-old son as a human shield to escape the scene in fight with police.

Police claimed to have recovered a huge quantity of weapons form the killed terrorists.

The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.
